Their voices and careers paths were markedly different, but no one would dispute that Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald were the two preeminent vocalists of American jazz. Billie Holiday, the tragic heroine of jazz history, who’s voice is recognizable from the first syllable. Ella Fitzgerald, who’s almost superhuman voice and improvisatory skill has yet to be matched. Classic recordings, vintage video clips, and live performances from the lecturer will keep this class lively and swinging! Lecture series led by Seth Kibel.
The lecture series will be held on Mondays, October 21 and 28, 2024 from 9:45-Noon each day (there will be a short break). Participants only need to reserve a spot for 10/21 and you are welcome to come to one or both dates. This series is made possible through the Bel Air Arts and Entertainment District with a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.
