On October 28th, a mural dedication was held at 115 North Bond Street to celebrate the completion of the mural that honors Harford County Medal of Honor recipient Alfred B. Hilton. Many members of the community came together to bring this beautiful piece to Bel Air which honors the rich history of one of our County’s past residents.
An African-American Union Soldier in the Civil War, Sgt. Alfred B. Hilton is the recipient the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in the battle of New Market Heights in 1864. Sergeant Hilton is one of 16 African-American Union Army Soldiers to receive the Medal of Honor for their service during the Civil War, and the only service member from Harford County to receive the award.
This project was spearheaded by the American Legion Post 55 and many members of the community, including the Bel Air Cultural Arts Commission and the Bel Air Downtown Alliance, partnered with them to add this historic mural to downtown Bel Air.
