The first annual Sweets on the Streets, sponsored by the Bel Air Downtown Alliance, will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Bel Air. Sweets on the Streets will take place throughout downtown Bel Air and will feature pop-up specialty shops in vacant storefronts and also partnerships between local confectioners and artisans who will set up shop in a downtown location for the day. Participating shop owners will be paired with either a food vendor or an artisan to create a unique shopping experience for visitors and residents. Several pop-up shops for vendors who need more space will also be open, including one at the new Armory Marketplace.
Christine McPherson, executive director of the Bel Air Downtown Alliance, expressed excitement over bringing Sweets on the Streets to Bel Air. “An evolution of all the great things about the Chocolate and Candy Festival, Sweets on the Streets will extend throughout all of downtown bringing confectioner and artisan pop-up shops alike to nestle into the nooks and crannies of Main Street.” During Sweets on the Streets, you can see pop up shops like Taken: Forever Reinventing which made its debut as a pop-up in downtown Bel Air in February 2016.
You may be lucky enough to find one of your favorite vendors from the Belle Aire Market or from the Chocolate and Candy Festival at the event and you’re sure to find some brand new favorites to add to your list. There will be a mix of baker’s offering a variety of products plus artisans with unique finds you didn’t even know you had to have.
It’s a great opportunity to meet local artisans and also to shop at the fabulous boutiques and shops in downtown Bel Air. “We see Sweets on the Streets as a great opportunity to showcase available spaces and promote downtown’s eclectic mix of businesses,” said McPherson. The day-long event provides plenty of time to stop in at one of our downtown restaurants for lunch or dinner too. Our restaurant owners are always ready to welcome you and your friends for a quick bite or a leisurely meal.
See you at Sweets on the Streets!
