A “Ewenique” Shop on Bond Street
Winter in Bel Air is a great time of year to don a brightly colored wool sweater or curl up by the fire with a crocheted throw blanket and a cup of hot tea. And nothing is as special as a handmade sweater or afghan, wouldn’t you agree?
Ewenique Yarns, located at 130 North Bond Street, opened its doors in 2002 and has been providing patterns, needles, yarns and accessories to Harford County knitters ever since. Stop by any day of the week and you’ll be welcomed by shelves filled with gorgeous yarns of all colors and textures so beautiful that they stop you in your tracks. These artfully displayed yarns provide inspiration for new and experienced knitters alike. You’ll find many loyal customers of Ewenique Yarns who come in knowing they can find just the right skein for their latest muse. Those not so experienced needn’t worry; there is no shortage of knowledge in the shop to guide you.
You’re also likely to find a friendly group knitting around the large worktable in the back of the shop and talking about events of the day. So relaxing is the mood, it’s enough to pull you in and make you want to sit with them for a while. While there, you may discover these friends working on their own projects, making shawls for those in need in Harford County or knitting scarves for recipients of Meals on Wheels.
The feeling may be relaxed but there’s no sitting still for owner Maggie Jackovitz. Ewenique Yarns offers many classes throughout the month, including the “Knit Doctor” which can help you if you’ve made a mistake or you’re stuck on your own project. Other classes include Intro to Socks, Knitting Basics, Crocheting Basics, and Fair Isle Knitting to name a few. Maggie and her knowledgeable staff are also available to help customers choose just the right pattern for their skill level or the perfect combination of yarns for a new project.
Artists show up in all kinds of places in our District. And this cozy shop on Bond Street is no exception. Hope you’ll drop by and see them in the New Year. You’ll be glad you did.
